Have you ever invested in a healer or coach and feel like they didn’t help you? This was a question asked in a group recently. Here’s one person’s response…
“I’ve had experiences that started out feeling like I wasn’t getting anything from it, and the lesson for me is to see it through because when I do, magic happens. It’s not really about the coach. It’s about me getting out of my own way. This is a very jargony thing to say, but you collect evidence for whatever you want to believe. If you believe coaching isn’t working, that’s what you’ll see. If you believe it can/will/is, that’s what you’ll see.”
I know for me, (true for decades) I invest a fairly large portion of my money, time, and attention in teachers, healers and coaches. Why? For the many reasons I’ll list below…
- Because there is only so far I can take myself on my own.
- Because I’m clear that the purpose of a human life is to expand into our true nature and my small mind would have me believe otherwise. I’ve learned to listen to my heart when she asks for help. Way less suffering when I listen.
- Because there are so many good people who are several steps ahead of me on the path and can show me the way.
- Because I’ve learned over and over that I can’t hold myself as accountable as another who has my best interest at heart.
- Because usually I can’t always see the steps I need to take, and even if I can see the next step, it doesn’t mean I always have the courage to take it on my own. I almost always have the courage to take it with support.
I’m currently reading a book called, “If Women Rose Rooted” by Sharon Blackie who is a psychologist specializing in neuro-science, narrative, and Celtic Studies. She talks about how the cultural narrative has fractured our hearts. She links the fracturing of our hearts with the fracturing and human destruction of Mother Earth. As in, the two aren’t separate.
She even goes so far as to say we’re living is a wasteland both internally and externally driven by narratives that are fed to us. Narratives that don’t serve our mind, body, heart, Live, Spirit, or World.
While it’s true there is tremendous beauty still left in our natural world, who knows how long that will last at the current rate of human influence and destruction.
Yet there is a river of life that if we follow her flow can nourish, heal, and lead us out of this imposed wasteland. This River of Life can heal our hearts, lives, and land.
I’ve felt that in my own heart for years. And I agree with the author when she invites us to consider that the healing of Mother Earth, Cultures, Systems and the World must begin with the healing of our own heart.
I know this to be true in every cell of my being, it’s why I wrote a book about it.
When I sit with a woman and she shares any number of physical symptoms with me such as shortness of breath, anxiety, worry, excess weight, sleep problems, tight or strained muscles, changes in cholesterol, blood pressure, inflammation, or blood sugar levels, she’s describing her internal wasteland and doesn’t even realize it. She’s terrified and doesn’t know what to do about her fear. She fights against it, turns away from it, or freezes in the face of it.
Fight, Flight, Freeze…nervous system reactions that are normal yet, we are not designed to live in them permanently. Until death do us part. Thus, all that fear is kept in a tidy container lest it could pour forth and smother her to death.
Her small mind doing everything in her power to keep that container closed and managed.
Unfortunately, that container is our heart, body and energy system. It is clear to me that hardened arteries is our heart asking for softness, that blockages are asking for opening and flow, that inflammation is asking for healing of old pain that’s burning from the inside, that blood sugar increases are asking for a real and honest connection to the sweetness of natural life.
Some will hear this and disagree. Some will hear it, agree, but feel unable to do anything about it. And, some will hear this and recognize she’s prepared her whole life, maybe lifetimes, to take herself on the journey out of the wasteland and into the arms of Life. To thrive, to heal, to love, and the live the rest of her years in the rhythm with the Great Mother.
This journey is imperative to heal our inner terrain, our inner landscape filled with bones, blood, muscles, organs, a network of immune, glandular, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous system functions. A network of communication that is breaking down, trying to get our attention for the need at hand.
Life needs us. She needs me and you and every woman willing to say “yes” to her journey.
When I watch a woman go from striving to thriving, from pain to freedom, from barren (in the sense that she has not enough time, energy, money, purpose, or nourishing relationships), to plenty and a feeling of wholeness however imperfect, I can see her true nature shine forth. As a result, her Life, World and the Earth rejoices.
Women are notorious for saying, “I’m fine”, when asked how they are. I heard someone say the other day that “fine” is our biggest problem. We’re not fine. We’re in need of multi-level healing and transformation and it must start with each one of us. One heart, one life, one woman at a time.
I invite you to journey from “fine-not-really-fine” to a restoration of mind, body, heart, and Life.
I hope with all my heart to see you on this path. Steps on a path. One at a time. 7 Failproof Steps to a Healthy Heart, steps that reverse the dis-ease we speak of in this blog. I offer you a complementary copy of the book that outlines exactly these steps. There is only one mistake that could get made here, and that is to do nothing. To slip into “I’m fine”, and to use your waning energy to keep the container tight and tidy. I hope you don’t make that mistake.
Our bodies and earth are not a wasteland, they are not barren, useless and worthless. They are Life Herself. You are Life Herself. It’s time to rise up, be in that flow and stand in that truth.
