Do you know about the alchemy in creativity?
Let’s start with the definition of ‘alchemy’….
based on the supposed transformation of matter, particularly with attempts to convert base metals into gold; process of transformation, creation, or combination.
In my last e-mail to you, I said this, “I find it utterly true that when I need to figure or work something out, the best place to do that is on a visual journal page. It is literally creativity teaching me about Life, offering solutions and inspiring me to be a better person, even when I feel like I can’t possibly. The outcome doesn’t matter, it’s what happens in the process that is the gold.”
I had no idea this was happening when I first started on my creativity path. When I went through some hard life and health stuff, and in hindsight I realized that it was my regular creative practice that was my life boat. Literally, nothing else worked like connecting with my Self and creating. I could literally feel things releasing and healing.
Things like emotional pain, physical pain, I was lost for a bit and creativity brought me back to the shores of myself.
That’s what I mean by ‘gold’. Healing exchanges old energy that doesn’t serve (base energy) into a transformed energy that does serve (gold). That’s alchemy to me. I can feel it happening during a creative process. I think that’s the embedded meaning of alchemy. Yes, there is actual chemical alchemy, but I think it’s also a parable for the healing work each human being must do in a life. Any healing modality seeks to cause this alchemy, healing, or transformation. I love that we can do this with, and for ourselves.
Creativity is a medicine. I know this in all my cells now. I’ve witnessed for myself and hundreds of others. And research bears it out.
Trusting this is true comes by engaging in regular creative experiences. It’s not a matter of “if it’s true”, but a matter of “when it awakens in you”. Since I didn’t know this was a ‘thing’ when I began, I wasn’t impatient to trust, I only knew one sitting at a time that I felt better, and that peace would be what I felt shortly. That was enough to keep going.
- What would it mean if you could take something you’re struggling with to a page and it could transform into something better?
- What if you were able to pull the roots on old emotional pain that weighs you down?
- What if you could save a good amount of time and money getting to the core of a problem and access a solution?
- How would your life be if you had a regular date with acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion for yourself or another?
- What if a creative journal is the new mani/pedi regarding self love?
- How cool would it be if you could increase good qualities like confidence, courage, and positive self worth be keeping a regular creative journal!
