Last but not least… Harvard’s #3 Creativity Component is “Motivation”
The enthusiasm or willingness to do something, and the reasons one has for doing it.
That’s ‘motivation’. It’s different for everyone. One person might be motivated to be creative for the stress relief. Another because it helps them work through things and grow better than therapy. Yet another is motivated because there’s no safer, more private place to cultivate their spiritual connection.
Creativity is a relationship that reveals YOU to YOU. It’s all about self-revelation. It’s a bridge that connects our humanity and our divinity.
I get it, some people are scared about that and yet, it’s our prime directive as a human being. Especially now. The part of a human being thats scared is the small human mind. But that’s a minuscule part of who we are. Our heart and soul aren’t scared at all and truth be told, are dying for our attention, literally.
As a refresher the 3 components of creativity are:
- Engagement
- Creative Thinking
- Motivation
Last time we talked about how creative thinking includes all of us, our whole brain and being. Which means that small human mind part of us is included in that wholeness. When we allow our small human mind (or ego) to run the show we exclude our whole brain and being (which is a lot of wisdom and intelligence to exclude). The most we get from our small human mind running the show is worry and fear.
Yet, with our whole brain and being, we get all the goods. Peace, solutions, health, ideas, inspiration, expression, abundance, and love.
I don’t know about you, but that’s my motivation. I’m tired of fear, aren’t you?
I encourage you to figure out what motivates you, what inspires you, what do you like? Then make a decision to move toward that. You’ve gotta have some kind of spiritual practice to do this.
Creativity and spirituality are the same thing. Why? Because our Creative Life Force is our Spirit/Soul/Heart/Higher Self. Engage with this part of yourself on the regular and you discover your gold.
The practice of keeping a creative journal, sketchbook, or visual journal (all the same thing), is the most enjoyable spiritual practice I’ve found. Research shows it’s on par with meditation in the benefits it delivers.
